The Columbia Falls track teams had another strong week as the girls took fourth and the boys were third at the Whitefish ARM Invitational Saturday. Several athletes also saw action at the Russ Pilcher Top-10 Meet in Missoula Tuesday.

“I thought we did very well this week,” head coach Jamie Heinz said. “All of our sprinters had PRs. They all had their best times of the year. It didn’t necessarily equate to places at the meet, though, but the majority of our athletes had their best marks at the meet Saturday.”

The Wildkats were once again led by their throwers as Tallia Sova won the discus and shot put and was second in javelin, where Angellica Street finished in the top spot. Street was also fourth in the discus.

Other top-three finishes for the girls included Josie Windauer in the 200-meter dash and Jenee Sandlin in the pole vault. Both finished third.

The Cats dominated the pole vault as Ben Windauer was first, Russell Albin took third and Austin Green was fourth.

Drew Morgan threw a new personal best and qualified for state in javelin as he finished third with a throw of 171 feet, 7 inches.

The 4X100 relay team of Morgan, Daniel Henjum, Easton Sempf and Kaedan Clewien was second, as was the 4X400 relay team of Morgan, Sempf, Zackary Pletcher and Tucker Salmonsen.

Ben Windauer was also third in the 110-meter hurdles and Salmonsen was third in the 800-meter run.

According to Heinz, the Cats did well at the meet, but there is still work to do.

“Everything we do is focused towards the end of the season. While teams are usually way ahead of us early on, we just strive to make sure we get better every single week. Nothing really matters until the end of the season,” he said. “Our results at the ARM meet were nice, but it still isn’t really where we put our focus. I think we are on track to peak when we want to.”

The track teams will be in Kalispell Saturday for the Archie Roe Meet.
