Election: Perry wins another House District 3 squeaker

Print Article

Zac Perry

Incumbent Democrat Zac Perry squeaked out another win against Republican Jerry O’Neil in the House District 3 race in last week’s election.

Perry garnered 2,265 votes to O’Neil’s 2,224, a difference of just 41 votes. The two have squared off several times over the years. Libertarian Shawn Guymon received 100 votes.

In the county commissioner race, Republican Randy Brodehl beat Democrat Tom Clark handily, 28,515-16,677.

In the statewide races, incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Tester edged Republican Matt Rosendale, 233,932-222,468, with Libertarian Rick Breckenridge receiving 13,454.

Republican Congressman Greg Gianforte beat Democratic challenger Kathleen Williams, 242,038-1214,844, with Libertarian Elinor Swanson receiving 13,176 votes.

Legislative referendum 128 passed 284,449-171,615. It would retain the 6-mill levy for the state’s colleges.

Referendum 129 passed 249,814-144,214. It would limit who could deliver absentee ballots.

Both ballot initiatives failed by wide margins. I-185 which would raise tobacco taxes to partially pay for Medicaid expansion failed, 249,270-218,994. I-186, which would tighten mining regulations also failed, 262,554-201,543. It would have required a mining company to prove it wouldn’t need perpetual water treatment of mine waste before a mine could be approved.
