The Columbia Falls Swim Team was second in Choteau over the weekend on the strength of 33 top-3 finishes. Catherine Opalka accounted for all three of the individual first-place finishes for the Columbia Falls team, winning the girls 25 freestyle, 25 breaststroke and 50 freestyle in the 8 and under division.

The team also won three relay races as the 11-12 girls team of Avery Role, Taryn Borgen, Sadie Cheff and Camille Cronk won both the 200 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay. The 13-14 boys team of Thane Borgen, Tristan Crane, Logan Niles and Adam Schrader also won the 200 medley relay.

The team also had 12 second-place and 15 third-place finishes at the meet.

“Things are looking pretty good for us right now,” head coach Maida Walters said. “The swimmers will be tired because we’re getting into the real grind of our season now, but that’s where they need to be in order to perform well at state.”

The team will be at home this weekend as they host a meet at Pinewood Park Saturday and Sunday.
